Intro

After the small accident in the form of the DM-380, DUNU sends the next Budget-IEM into the ring, which enters a contested territory with its price tag of 65 €.
There are many good products in this range, so it is certainly not easy for the DM-480 to position itself emphatically here.

Handling

What the DM-480 does really well is its ergonomics and isolation. Here it is hard to hold its own and therefore a successful entry into the budget battle over 50 €.

The removable 2-pin cable is similar to the DM-380, but feels more valuable and is easier to control. Not bad, but also nothing special.
In addition, there is a silicone tip set in white and in black with different sized holes. The whole thing is rounded off with a practical storage case and a cable clip.

Sound

After the DM-380 it is of course not that difficult to make an impression on me, but the DM-480 is not an in-ear that I will especially remember.

The bass finds a good middle ground, between punch and depth. The subrange is a little bit more raised than the midrange bass, which basically suits my taste, but doesn't develop enough body. It also slides slightly into the mids, but this doesn't affect them too much. The bass is of the harder/tighter type, but gives the signature enough warmth and thus naturalness. The bass is also accurate and detailed.

The DM-480 has a classic V-signature. Unfortunately, the mids lack some body and sometimes sound thinner than one is used to. This is sometimes more noticeable on guitars or piano. On the other hand, they are also very clear and have a very good resolution. Vocals are a bit more in the foreground, which is more true for women. They lack some warmth and the sibilants are sometimes slightly emphasized. The upper mids are a bit too much raised for me. Not at all as strong as on the DM-380, but still to an extent that slightly impairs the audibility and doesn't always appear tonal correct. But that is also strongly dependent on the volume.

The trebles are lively and have an appealing extension. They sound airy and add liveliness to the music. Here and there fine details come out again and again, which always keep you in a good mood. Together with the bass, they put the mids somewhat in the shade. Due to the raised upper mids, the highs of course also get more energy than would have been necessary. This doesn't always make them the most relaxed representatives in this context. However, it never becomes painful, or unpleasant, but more easily tiring.

The DM-480 can shine despite its completely closed construction with its wide and also above average deep stage. There is plenty of space to give instruments their own space, which results in good separation and location. Clearly a strength of the DM-480.

Outro

All in all, I find the DM-480 to be quite successful in terms of sound. Above all, the very good 3D display and the pleasing bass remain.
Apart from that, the DM-480 is a big step forward in all aspects if you really want to compare it to the DM-380.
With its first-class ergonomics and isolation, as well as the good, though not remarkable, sonic characteristics, it is a solid representative in the higher budget range, but there are also more harmonious and balanced in-ears.
The pushed upper and sometimes thin mids, diminish the overall impression a bit.
If you're looking for something comfortable for sports or the stage and appreciate a big stage, you can certainly take a look.

Legend

Haptic:

Here the processing plays a role and the usability of the scope of supply. Additionally the appearance, wearing comfort and robustness.

Value:
Here I evaluate for me subjectively the price/performance ratio - does not flow into the evaluation!

Z: No Brainer

A: money well spent

B: all right, you can do

C: gives better for less money

D: overpriced

E: collector's price

Daily life:
Here, I focus on the long-term audibility and whether I can hear it well out of the box. This is of course very subjective and therefore only a minimal deduction or bonus.
