Intro

The XIAOMI Piston models are generally considered to be not only very inexpensive, but in view of this, they also offer excellent sound quality. According to the World Wide Web, this is no different with the Hybrid series, which currently includes the (Piston) IV HYBRID, Pro HD and PRO HD 2. I have to admit, however, that although these are decent in-ears and certainly quite good all-rounders, I can't understand some of the praise on the Internet. Let's start the test series with the IV HYBRID, which was already quite advanced with its hybrid design for the time (2015), since the BA drivers at that time were still rather sold in the professional area instead of consumer products.

Handling

Basically, there is not much difference between the three different models in terms of handling and workmanship, with a mixture of metal and plastic. They differ largely in the control unit with integrated microphone, but the IV Hybrid and PRO 2 are also the same remote design.

The remote of the IV HYBRID is easy to reach and operate. However, the individual buttons could be separated better for more accurate operation. The cable is not removable and is wrapped with cloth behind the Y-split. Classic budget standard, but quite solid, also in terms of the intelligibility of the mic.

The XIAOMI hybrid models are a bit bitchy when it comes to the right fit. The sound holes are not compatible with all tips, because they are a bit smaller than the standard T400 attachment and therefore the tips can slide down. Of course this does not happen with the included tips, but that's exactly what I have insulation problems with. Therefore it is not guaranteed that you get a good isolation and fit to enjoy the full sound, but it is definitely possible!

Sound

Interesting indeed are the changes in the frequency response of the different models. Here, the wheel was definitely not reinvented at any time, but only minimally adjusted, which is quite audible, but does not produce a great leap in quality.

The bass of the IV Hybrid is a pretty good mix of depth, punch and fun factor, but it lacks a bit of tightness and texturing. All the models in the range have a clear bass emphasis, but because the IV Hybrid has a more prominent treble, we not only have the greatest V-signature, but also a more lively sound. Overall the bass is very solid, but a bit too bloated and not on-point enough for me.

The mids fade into the background, which is more noticeable especially in male voices. For me they are a bit too well-behaved and could be a bit more grainy and powerful. But they have a quite pleasant and natural sound, although they are a bit too bright in the upper range, for my taste. Resolution and separation are in a good range and the IV HYBRID is not weak in detail.

The highs are smooth, and fall off quickly after 5 kHz. The popular peak around 12 kHz is of course there to make the IV HYBRID sound more open and also to extend the stage. Nevertheless, the expansion and detail reproduction of the trebles is quite manageable, but you also don't have the feeling of missing too much. In addition, they never become tiring or exhausting, but they are not always the cleanest. There is nothing that needs to be emphasized. Just average good.

The stage of the IV HYBRID is wider than deep and neither too intimate nor lost, but here again you shouldn't expect too much. Solid.

Outro

The IV HYBRID is a good all-rounder with a distinct V-signature. It does not hurt anybody and you can consume music with it very well. It has a fun character, but can also score with relaxed mids and highs without having to give up much information.
For me, the mids are a bit too much in the background, the bass not tight enough and the highs a bit lifeless, but it's quite suitable for a bit of music in between, if a relaxed listening experience is important to you. The IV Hybrid clearly clears up when the music doesn't have a lot of bass when you're into voices. If you want to listen to electric or EDM and like softer bass, you might find your match.
For currently just about 5 € the IV HYBRID is really a bargain. Remaining stock is probably being squandered here.

Legend

Haptic:

Here the processing plays a role and the usability of the scope of supply. Additionally the appearance, wearing comfort and robustness.

Value:
Here I evaluate for me subjectively the price/performance ratio - does not flow into the evaluation!

Z: No Brainer

A: money well spent

B: all right, you can do

C: gives better for less money

D: overpriced

E: collector's price

Daily life:
Here, I focus on the long-term audibility and whether I can hear it well out of the box. This is of course very subjective and therefore only a minimal deduction or bonus.
